We believe that the youth are the future leaders of our communities, and what better way to promote community transformation than to teach youth according to God’s word? Filipino teenagers from the urban poor are a special population, many of them having grown up knowing dire poverty, living on streets, broken families, and immoral behaviors. But they are also a generation searching for meaning, and often have very moldable hearts to God’s ways.
The Bukang Liwayway Youth ministries are active in all six of our locations, reaching out to youth of high school through young adult ages. Weekly Bible studies and youth fellowships are conducted by caring teachers, and in many cases, older urban youth whose lives have been transformed through Christ. Several youth leaders who are strong believers lead small groups of new believers for discipleship, leadership training, and intense spiritual growth. Wholistic in nature, the youth ministries also help with tutorials for the scholars, neighborhood clean-ups, and other practical needs. We also encourage youth relationships through sports ministries such as basketball, badminton, chess and other games that benefit their mind and body. Additionally, the youth thrive in a creative arts ministry, which focuses on the development of youths’ talents in areas such as dancing, singing, arts, puppetry and acting. In each of these activities, the youth are being trained to use their talents in sharing the love and word of God.
